Description
Dichloromethane (methylene chloride, methylene chloride, DCM, CH2Cl2)
Description: Dichloromethane (methylene chloride, DXM, CH2Cl2) is a transparent, easily mobile and volatile liquid with a sweet smell characteristic of halogen derivatives.
Application:
– High ability to dissolve many organic substances, ease of removal, relatively low toxicity led to its widespread use as a solvent for reactions and extractions, including in laboratories.
– Used in mixtures for removing varnish, degreasing surfaces.
– In the food industry, it is used to prepare instant coffee, hop extract and other food preparations.
– For dissolving resins, fats, bitumen.
– Used for foaming polyurethanes.
– Used in chromatography.
– In industry, in a mixture with polymers, it is used to create a form that hardens quickly due to the evaporation of dichloromethane.
– It is used for gluing plastics: polystyrene, polycarbonates, polyethylene terephthalate, ABS plastics, but not for polyethylene and polypropylene.
